Conrad C32 suppresses dust in a demolition in Villorba

The advantage of the articulated arm in demolition

The images and video show the highlights of a demolition job carried out in mid-December 2020 by the company De Nardi on commission from the Villorba (TV)* municipality. The demolition and restoration work included the demolition of the former town library building to create a green area and car park.

The job

The articulated arm is certainly one of our customers’ favourite configurations, and it is easy to see why.

Conrad turbines are installed on an articulated arm with hydraulic cylinders controlled by both PLC and radio remote control. The three-section movable arm carries the turbine and its mist jet up to five and a half metres, allowing it to get very close to the source of the dust.

The work was carried out with a Volvo EC220E excavator fitted with a demolition shear. To suppress the demolition dust, De Nardi, the contractor carrying out the work, used a Cannoni Conrad dust suppression system.

The dust suppression system chosen

System consisting of C32 cannon with 64 nozzles on 2 heated rings, a PLC-controlled articulated arm with radio remote control to manage the mister’s movements and performance remotely, and a 5000-litre tank holding enough water for the whole working day.

The articulated arm closely follows the operations of the shear cutting and tearing, which allows the dust cloud to be counteracted as soon as it is generated.

The action is precise and targeted because, once raised, the cannon’s turbine can rotate through 340° and tilt from -20° to +45°. These operations can be controlled with the radio remote control by a site operator or directly by the excavator operator.

Some details

*Details of the intervention: The former library building was built as a parish kindergarten in the late 1950s. In 1979 it was handed over to the municipality, which used it first as a school and later as a library. Since 2018, after the transfer of the library collections and related services to the Barchessa of Villa Giovannina, it has also housed a number of cultural associations in Villiburg, now, in turn, housed in a new location to allow for demolition.

"The building has always been carefully maintained in order to keep it in good condition, but it was now inadequate according to current regulations for construction in seismic zones," explainsarchitect Antonio Pavan. “Hence the project, drawn up by the Public Works Office of the Municipality of Villorba, which mainly involves demolishing the building and restoring the natural or semi-natural ground, creating a tree-lined green area and a car park to complement the existing adjacent one, as well as rebuilding the fence on the side of the primary school”.

"The project," adds the mayor of Villorba Marco Serena, "envisages a total expenditure of 65,000 euro and is co-financed by 20,000 euro from the Regional Fund for Sustainable Urban Regeneration and Demolition.
