Misting system on a Doppstadt DW-3060 shredder
We built a customised misting system for a Doppstadt DW‑3060 type F mobile shredder, used for processing waste wood such as furniture, crates, chairs, logs, branches, pallets, panels and planks.
The machine operates both outdoors (at landfills and construction sites) and inside warehouses, where materials are stored before shredding. To optimise its efficiency, the hopper has been modified, raising it to better contain the waste during loading by an excavator with an orange-peel grab, thus reducing material dispersion.
During the shredding process, large quantities of dust are generated both inside the hopper and in the discharge area of the conveyor belt. The customer came to us with the aim of minimise this emission, asking us for a tailor-made misting system, suitable for continuous operation and for the mobility of the shredder.
Our system
A system of steel pipes and nozzles for high-pressure misting around the entire perimeter of the hopper, to intercept the dust while the material is being ground.
The system was mounted on the outside to protect the structure from impacts from the material during loading, while the nozzles were inserted into holes drilled on site in the hopper: meticulous work to ensure a long service life for the system.
The discharge section of the shredder was also prone to producing dust, so we installed 2 lines of misting nozzles able to direct the water onto both sides of the belt.
Material falling to the ground was another source of dust: for this reason we placed 2 supports at the end of the belt, with nozzles set at different angles to intercept and capture the rising dust.
The misting system is fed by a high-pressure pump that requires a three-phase power supply and a water connection.
The system and pump travel together with the shredder.
Misting for dust-free wood shredding
We combine the Doppstadt DW‑3060 shredder with a fine water misting system: the hopper was adapted to prevent dispersion during loading, while the micronised water jets capture the fine suspended particles, suppressing dust from the very first pass.
Why suppressing dust from wood shredding is essential
Wood dust can cause respiratory irritation, allergies and explosion hazards, and it also settles on machinery, impairing its operation. Targeted misting ensures better air quality, improved workplace safety and compliance with regulations.
